Byron bay is the world famous surf town on the east coast of of New South Wales, Australia. Its actually a pretty small beach town. We stayed there for 2 days at the end of our road trip, for a little relax and chill out time. We stayed in a studio apartment/hotel room in Aloha Byron Bay. It was a nice 10 minute walk from the centre of Byron Bay town.
We walked into town when we arrived along a nice walkway behind the hotel, we even said hello to a few turkeys (apparently here since the british arrived way back in the day). The town was nice to walk around, nice shops cafes etc and we headed to the beach for a nice walk too. Although the beach was lovely, I couldn’t help but wonder what was so special about Byron Bay compared to the next beach town. Don’t get me wrong it was nice, but the east coast of Australia feels like every coastal town you pull into will have some nice cafes shops etc. and beaches with people surfing on them.

The next day we headed to:
Cape Byron Lighthouse: https://goo.gl/maps/ssZYRo7ComZfpRts6
Tallow Beach: https://goo.gl/maps/qg4kCeKcrpEryKRU8
Stone & Wood Brewery: https://goo.gl/maps/FATpKBK52MmFL7xj6
First we went up to the lighthouse to check out the views (including a view of Tallow beach) where at the right time of year you might spot some whales or dolphins in the distance. the lighthouse can be a great spot to watch the sunrise too FYI. After that we went down to Tallow Beach to test out my camera skills on the surfers and to get a bit of sun. Our first time relaxing on the beach, the whole road trip! It was great to just sit and watch people surf and enjoy the blue skies for a while.

That late afternoon (they close at 5pm) we headed down to the Stone and Wood Brewery to test out the locally brewed beer. They had a brewery tour but you can see a lot of the brewery from when you arrive and they have a tasting platter where you can order any 3-5 of their different beers (there’s a lot to choose from) and just sit down to enjoy them at your own pace. We did that, got a bite to eat too and really enjoyed it.

After the brewery we took a walk across the street to a local surf board factory/shop. Was cool to see, and they were very friendly to let us just look around.

Food
Loft: https://goo.gl/maps/eNBRXoqk7sMKbxDn9
That first night we headed to the Loft for dinner. Food was good and the location is in the name. It was a bit windy on the night but nice view, food and drink. cant complain and then walked home by the main road this time – another nice walk.

Balcony: https://goo.gl/maps/Rw73bG8Pdc19M7zcA
The second night we went to the Balcony which was just across the road from the Loft, also. similar set up, upstairs with open terrace overlooking street below. food was good here too and a bit busier than the picture suggests!

Bayleaf: https://goo.gl/maps/Tq5uEFfx22qytVDc8
We went to the bayleaf for a nice breakfast and coffee. The vibe in all these cafes was great but they weren’t cheap at all, and we did wonder a bit how all these chilled out, take life as it comes types could afford this life style here. Lucky for some I guess!
