Zagreb was the perfect introduction to Croatia. After landing, I hopped on the Croatia Airlines airport bus—super convenient—taking me straight to the central bus station. From there, it was a short walk to my Airbnb, which turned out to be a gem: clean, central, and great value.
My first full day kicked off with a 2.5-hour walking tour booked through GuruWalks. It was a fantastic way to get oriented. The guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, weaving history, culture, and quirky stories through the charming streets of the Upper and Lower Towns.

The next day, I took a day tour to Rastoke and Plitvice Lakes, and it was easily the highlight of the trip. Waterfalls, turquoise lakes, and dense forest trails made it feel like stepping into a fairytale. Definitely worth the day trip if you’re in Zagreb.

After three nights, it was time to move on. I caught a direct bus to Ljubljana, Slovenia, to continue the journey. A smooth and scenic ride across the border.
Zagreb surprised me with its relaxed vibe, friendly locals, and walkable layout. A great start to any Balkan adventure.
